Many Congressional leaders and stakeholders continue to highlight the need for the PBM reforms. Representative Buddy Carter (R-GA) recently stated that House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and other House leaders confirmed their intent to include PBM reforms that were ultimately left out of a continuing resolution package passed in December.
Mark Blum, managing director of the PBM Accountability Project, issued the following statement:
“We are encouraged that House leadership stands ready to address the flaws in the nation’s prescription drug supply chain and pricing system. For years, powerful pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), controlling over 85% of the prescription drug market, have exploited the system for profit, operating without transparency and driving up costs for millions of Americans. These reforms will prioritize the needs of the American people over those of intermediaries by de-linking PBM revenues from drug prices, eliminating spread pricing, ensuring negotiated savings benefit patients at the pharmacy counter, and mandating greater transparency and accountability. Swift action is imperative to provide lasting relief to consumers.”
